combat infertility?
Medical science has progressed in leaps and bounds, especially
in the field of reproduction. One of the major techniques of fighting
infertility in India is through surrogacy. It is basically employed by people
or partners who cannot have a child of their own. A different surrogate woman
goes through the process of pregnancy and then hand over the newborn baby to
the commissioning parents, relinquishing any rights over the child as well. One
of the major reasons why surrogacy is an ideal option to fight against
infertility is because of the fact that the offspring will still share the
genes of the original parents and not the surrogating mother in most of the
scenarios. Most of the major cities in India have a number of fertility centers

Traditional surrogacy- in
this type, the surrogate mother receives the sperm from the intended father
donor, through artificial insemination.
In this scenario, the child will have some genes from the surrogate mother but
will have to waiver off any rights over the child permanently. Alternatively,
an anonymous donor’s sperm can also be used for fertilization. However, in this
case, the child will not resemble either of the intended parents.
Gestational surrogacy- this
is the more preferred method. The sperm and ova are taken outside the body from
the intended parents and fused. The embryo which is formed in about 6 week’s
time is transferred into the uterus of the surrogate mother to overlook the
rest of the stages of the pregnancy.
Other methods- this
includes Commercial Surrogacy in which the surrogate mother works for a
surrogate agency and earns money through this process. Then there is Altruistic
Surrogacy, where the surrogate does not ask for any compensation other than the
expenses for pregnancy.
The cost in India
The exact amount varies from place to place but in most cases,
it lies between 10,05,000 rupees to 15,00,000 rupees. It includes the treatment
charges and the legal procedures along with the compensation in some cases.
It must have become clear by now that surrogacy is a
completely legal and ethical method of fighting infertility. Test tube baby center in Punjab and
